Kamila Narysheva is a sound and media artist, curator and writer whose work explores infrastructures, memory and digital isolation. Working with spatial sound, text and rule-based human–machine systems, she examines questions of decoloniality, national identity and LGBTQIA+ representation, alongside the techno-emotional states shaped by algorithmic culture. Her practice takes the form of composition, installation and performance, alongside research-led and editorial projects.

T1/2 (Half-Life), her collaborative sound installation with Vicky Clarke, reflects on the Semipalatinsk Test Site, listening for the afterlives of nuclear testing through voice, low-frequency resonance and archival traces. Prometheus Brought Fire, developed within the Goethe-Institut’s SOLITUDE: Loneliness & Freedom platform, investigates digital isolation and algorithmic manipulation via a scripted “junk-language” chatbot and multi-channel sound.

Based in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Kamila works with the Batyrkhan Shukenov Foundation on music-education initiatives. She holds an MA in Curatorial Studies from Smolny College (St Petersburg) and Bard College (New York). Beyond the studio, she preforms as a DJ under the moniker ‘milktea’, organises DBAD events supporting FLINTA solidarity in contemporary dance music and hosts a show on Berlin’s Refuge Worldwide spotlighting Central Asian music.
