Kamila Narysheva and Vicky Clarke: Post-nuclear + Archives Plus films

  • Venue: Sister (Cafe) Renold Building - 32a Altrincham Street Manchester, England, M1 7JR United Kingdom (map)

In this artist talk, artistic collaborators Vicky Clarke and Kamila Narysheva, will share the story of the making of the T1/2 (Half Life) installation, exploring themes of acoustic memory, sonic materiality and the historical context of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site. The talk will share an insight into sonic artistic process from the field recording strategy and expedition itself, to the technological challenges of creating the work remotely, including the building of a radionuclide degradation algorithmic MaxMSP patch. The second half of the event will focus on a specific period of Manchester’s nuclear legacy in the 1980s, with a screening of ‘Manchester Nuclear Free City’ from the North West Film Archive and Archives+  This project is supported by British Council’s Connections Through Culture programme.
