Lola De La Mata: The Tacit Friction Harp

  • Anthony Burgess Foundation Cambridge Street Manchester, England, M1 5BY United Kingdom (map)

Taking the ear as an actively anarchic being, one which asserts presence and holds artifacts - in the case of my left ear - chronic tinnitus. Through the performance/talk I will introduce how collaborating with my hearing difference led to new approaches in instrument design, music-making and embodied performance practices. In addition to vibrating air, performances with the acoustic Tacet Friction Harp approach hearing and listening through visual and tactile means without diverging from surround experiences or assembly. The experimental approach draws us into the unknown, sparking a sense of awe, and a (re)discovery of the ear.
